The RESULTS Success Plan

Welcome to this edition of RESULTS Mastery News, my name is Steve Mills for the last 30+ years I have been helping businesses to create significant growth. Today I am going to talk about:

  1. My RESULTS Success Plan
  2. My up-and-coming RESULTS Masterclass event on 20th August (free to attend)
  3. Why August is a great month to market your business.

The RESULTS Success Plan

Firstly, what is my RESULTS Success Plan? Well, it is not some kind of secret system that will help you to become a millionaire overnight. What it really is, is a list of eight ideas based on over 30 years of experience helping small businesses to grow. Here they are:

1. Know what you want

Number 1 in every sense of the word is ‘know what you want. If you don’t know what you want, then all roads lead there, and as far as marketing is concerned, there is no clear goal to pursue.

One of the points I’d like to make on this is that I believe it’s important to set big goals and it’s also important to write them down and to make sure they’re measurable. A goal to become wealthy or more successful is not really a goal; it’s more of a daydream.

2. Plan what you’re going to do to achieve what you want

Knowing what you want is important, but without an action plan for its attainment, it really is almost worthless, and so step two is to create a plan based on what you want and when you want it by.

3. Measure your results

As the old saying goes, we cannot manage what we do not measure. One of the big things that I talk a lot about is the measurement of sales and marketing. It is absolutely essential to know how many leads you’re creating. How many of those leads turn into meetings, and how many of those meetings turn into sales? There are, of course, many other key performance indicators for you to consider.

4. Become a better business owner.

One of the best books I’ve ever read is a book by Keith J. Cunningham called The Road Less Stupid. In this book Keith talks about the importance of becoming a better business owner. In fact, he says, “If you want a better business, you’ve got to become a better business owner.”

My belief is that this is definitely true, and if you want a better business, you need to start by working on yourself.

5. Model Success

One way to save time, money and effort in becoming successful is to model success. Let me be clear. I do not mean copy someone’s website or email campaign. What I mean is finding someone who’s got what you want and doing the same things in order to get the same or similar results.

For example, in the consultancy industry, one name stands out above all others, and that is Tony Robbins. Tony’s consultancy businesses turn over approximately $7 billion a year. Do you think other consultants could learn something from Tony?

6. Embrace technology

One of the things that I often hear from business owners is, “I’m not very techie”.

My advice is to refer to point number four. You need to ‘become a better business owner‘, and that includes embracing technology. Look at it this way: you’ve no doubt heard of AI and like many businesses, you’re probably using ChatGPT.

What that means in essence is that you’re using one out of over 10,000 different AI websites right now, and in the future, that’s probably going to be over 100,000. You need to upskill before you get left behind.

7. You can’t know everything, so you need to get a mentor, or mentors

The truth is, no one knows everything about everything, and in business, your expertise is probably operational expertise. In other words, you’re an expert at doing the work that the business does. That could be coaching, accountancy, teaching people how to play tennis, or repairing cars, etc.

However, being an expert operationally will probably not alone get you to become successful.

You need a mentor or a coach to help you to get to the next level in terms of sales, marketing, finance, HR, and recruitment. Becoming better at creating leads and converting those leads into sales is, of course, the number one skill that you need to develop to grow your business.

8. The only way to increase profit is to reduce costs and increase sales

The purpose of a business is to create a profit for the owner of that business, and there are only two ways of creating more profit in your business.

The first one is to reduce costs, and you could probably do that today. You could save money on something, couldn’t you?

However, the truth is you have to spend something, and even if you could save 10% or perhaps even 20%, reducing cost has a limited effect.

The real key to your success is increasing sales, and you can only do that three ways. Firstly, you can get more customers. Secondly, you can increase the average conversion rate and average amount of money that customers spend, and thirdly, you can increase the frequency of repurchase, in other words. Get your customers to come back and buy from you on a more consistent basis.

Why is August a great month to market your business?

Surely, that is not the case! August is a bit like December. Everyone is away on holiday, and most people’s attention is not on their business.

Those two things are true to some extent, but not totally true. Not everyone is away on holiday! In fact, 80% of us are still working as normal, but the real reason why August is a great month to market your business is very simple.

Your competitors aren’t.

So now you’ve got less competition, and getting your name out there and creating more leads than you did last year is a real key challenge for you and your business.

So good luck, and if we can help you, then please get in touch.
