Why Most Businesses Don’t Have a Lead Problem – They Have a Follow-Up Problem

Here’s something I see every single month when I sit down with business owners.

They tell me:

“Steve, we need more leads.”

But when I dig a little deeper, it turns out they already have:

  • Enquiries that were never properly followed up

  • Quotes that went quiet

  • Past clients who were never re-contacted

  • Warm conversations that simply fade away.

In other words, the money is already in the building – it’s just not being collected.

The real issue

Most businesses dramatically overestimate the power of new leads and massively underestimate the value of systematic follow-up.

Why? Because follow-up feels:

Pull a list of:

  • Everyone who asked for a quote in the last 6–12 months

  • Everyone who enquired but didn’t buy

  • Past clients you haven’t spoken to this year

Then pick up the phone or send a personal email and ask just two questions:

  1. “Is this still something you’re thinking about?”

  2. “What would need to change for this to move forward?”

That’s it.

  • No pressure.

  • No pitch.

  • Just a conversation.

You might be surprised how much business comes from simply being professional and consistent.

Proof it works
